No. A Great Day In East LA® is not finished. This is a living archive, and we will continue documenting musicians, artists and stories as the project grows. We are always happy to discover and add people whose histories deserve to be preserved.

For more than a decade, we have done our best to find and document as many artists as possible with the limited resources available to an independent project. Much of A Great Day In East LA® grew through word of mouth, community relationships and extensive research. But the internet and our own networks can only take us so far.
We know there are people and stories we have not yet discovered. If we missed someone, please send us a message. We would genuinely love to hear about them and add their name to our growing list.

Celebrando the Eastside Sound® was the project's major 2025–2026 museum exhibition at LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes in Los Angeles. It brought the existing archive together with hundreds of historical objects, instruments, photographs, documents, clothing and other materials gathered collected by Mark Guerrero and Piero F Giunti.

Because no music scene exists in isolation. East Los Angeles has always been shaped by exchange, collaboration and the people who have passed through, performed in, influenced or been influenced by its communities.
To understand East LA's musical history, we also have to understand its connections to the larger Los Angeles music landscape. East LA is the heart of the project, not a boundary around it. Part of what makes its musical history so extraordinary is its ability to embrace different people, genres, cultures and sounds.

East Los Angeles is the project's cultural center, but the history does not stop at a geographic boundary. The archive documents the relationships between East LA and musicians, neighborhoods, genres and cultural movements throughout greater Los Angeles and beyond.

The archive crosses generations and genres, including rock and roll, R&B, soul, Chicano rock, punk, hip-hop, Latin music, alternative music and numerous sounds that resist easy classification. Rather than treating these histories separately, the project documents how they intersect.
